When sunlight hits a solar panel, an electric charge is created. The solar panel feeds this electric charge into inverters, which change it from DC to AC electricity. That AC electricity runs through your electrical panel and supplies energy throughout your home.
Excess solar energy is stored in batteries for later use or supplied to your local grid. The stored energy will be used to power your home at night, but through net metering, you can get credits for the excess energy you produce which goes back to the grid. This means money back in your pocket.
So, not only are you saving money on utility bills, you can earn money back. Having solar in your home can also increase its value - all while making a substantial environmental impact for good.
